Cheptegei's WR and the shoes that got him there!

After 16 long years Joshua Cheptegei recently broke the 5000m world record at the Monaco diamond league running a staggering 12:35.36 smashing Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele's previous record.

The Ugandan distance runner needed to average 60.59 seconds per lap or 2:31.47 per km to break the record. Hard to believe for a guy from a country that only has one running track. At the finish line he even stopped his wrist watch, who knows it could be uploaded to Strava soon! 

The achievement has been tarnished slightly buy the question marks over the new Nike Dragonflys worn on the night. Opinions differ on the rules and regulations but its import not to discredit Joshua as he has already broken multiple world records at the tender age of 23. The shoe is designed for races 1500-10,000m and features the ZoomX foam which is lightweight and incredibly responsive. It also boasts an adaptable fit with engineered mesh upper and thanks to the full length plate for rigidity it proves to be the record breaking shoe to have in 2020 mid distance running.
